Self Indulgence is for Sissies

Cont....that was a fatty breakfast. We got a long flight ahead of us today, not sure how I feel about coming back to the United States..I missed the family tons, of course, but the craziness of our society, not so sure. I am glad I had the night to decompress and reaclimate myself to what I will encounter when I am home again. At some points at the beginning of traveling, I felt like an indulgent, pampered spoiled American, when we would stay at places that were not the greatest..I had to erase the lifestyle I am now used to. It was great traveling with Brittney, she being 18 and all, because I was just like her when I was 18, standards are not so high and I didn´t have the money back then either and over the course of ten years, I have become a soft, high standard United Statetian. I recognized it right away and am proud of myself to once again embracing a traveler state of mind. A bed and I am great! Sleeping with geckos on the ceiling is great, they are the most natural bug spray ever. Cool. And I am looking forward to coming home to my big, fatty house and am far more appreciative of our big, fatty life. Love. Dawn

Left my Heart in Corovado

Left my heart in Corovado.....We made it down to the remoteness via a hilarous bus ride. We were like popcorn popping in the bus... so many potholes to pop you up. Puerto Jimenez was gorgeous and amazing. Without even barely leaving the town, we saw Scarlet Macaws, 3 types of monkeys, CROCODILES, mi favorito, a million crazy birds, iguanas the size of my leg. We went sea kayaking in the afternoon in the OCEAN and saw dolpins swimming a little ways from us. We were each in our own kayak. Then we went swimmining, ate pineapple and watched the sunset. Oops , gotta go, our breakfast is out. LOVe yA, dawN

Ultima Dia en Costa Rica

Holy moly guys, nothing will ever be the same for me. This place changed me and showed me so much. I know now that Í´m a citizen of the world, not only the country I was born in. We spent a while talking to a really cool guy in Montezuma who has travelled tons. We discussed the differences between travellers and touristsm something that has come to my attention very strongly while here. He was saying how cool people from Oregon are, and how their attitude is similar to the Costa Ricans. It was so cool to be able to connect with this guy and learn together in the middle of the street at night.
I took a surfing lesson!!!! I´d been talking about it at every beach we went to and just couldn´t get up the courage to make it apriority and just do it! While in Malpais we splurged and spent our two allotted nights at a nice hotel(you´ll just have to wait and see pictures, no time to explain). The bartenders were really super nice, so we asked the one who was working our first night there if he surfed(of course he did, practically everyone there does) and if he wanted to give me a lesson. He was super great about it, and the next day I was out on the ocean with him! He was the perfect teacher, super laid back, patient and helpful. I was nervous about looking stupid, and then I got to beach with him and everything melted away, it was amazing!! Crap, breakfast is calling, see you guys tomorrow! love love love

Ok, a few more notes after breakfast..... Maleea totally had it right when she told me to remember everything around me, because Costa Rica would be in my heart forever. Yep. I think its kinda like your first love. I´ve never had one in the form of a person, but I´m certainly smitten with Costa Rica.
You all should be glad we´re coming home though. The three of us were getting crazier and stupider by the day. I think we wouldve lost ourselves completely in only a few more days. HoORy for sanity.

From the Caribbean to the Pacific...

OK, real quick... we,re back in San Jose after a few days in Puerto Viejo and a day hiking around Chauita. Saw a sloth and a bunch of howler monkeys in the rainforest near Chauita. And crabs and lizards... Awesome! It,s SOOO beautiful here! HOT... HUMID.... AND BEAUTIFUL! Puerto Viejo is an awesome little town on the Caribbean coast. Lots of Jamacians that have immigrated over to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, so there,s lots of Rastas and lots of live Reggae music. The language on the Caribbean coast is a mix of Jamacian, English, and Spanish... in the same sentence!! Crazy history on that! The beaches there are SO BEAUTIFUL! We all swam in the ocean... EVEN DAWN! (with her fear of sharks and all!) Rented bikes and rode around town, which only takes a couple minutes to ride from end to end. We met lots of really cool people there, including folks from Oregon, California, Alabama, and Belgium. Yesterday took the bus back up to San Jose and stayed at the Tranquillo Backpackers hostel last night.. and today we,re taking a LONG (8-10 hours) bus ride down to Puerto Jiminez, which is a cool town on the Oso Peninsula (on the Pacific coast), near Corcovado National Park (the most biologically diverse place on the planet, according to National Geographic). We,re about to do some hiking in the Rainforest there for a couple days... pretty remote! We,ll be staying in Puerto Jiminez, and mabye Carate... and we might make it to the La Sirena ranger station in the Corcovado Nat,l Park. I have a feeling that Corcovado just might be the highlight of our trip! We,re so excited. After that we,re going to fly back to San Jose and catch another bus to the Nicoya Peninsula for 4 nights. Pretty touristy there and expensive. We will post another update when we can... gotta go... breakfast is SERVED! Miss you all and Love you all!

Into the Great Wide Open

Well , as BrittB said, today is our ultimo dia aqui, and we are off to run rampant in the jungle, wrestling with alligators, jaguars, and the occasional coconut for its succulent juices. Well, just you guys know, learning Spanish has made me stupider in English. I constantly forget words and especially how to spell them there words. In our morning class, we go thru vocab and our teacher will explain what a spanish word means while talking in Spanish of course, and its like a game of Jeopardy, trying to guess what the flippin words means. This morning , I actually said *to be incajutes* with, you know like the mafia and stuff, or know someone important, who the heck made up the word incajutes and how the hizneckel do you spell it? Okay, well my superhubby arrived today, so I am off to learn Spanish, the language of love. Adios, and love ya all.

Kevin here, can't seem to put text in the post (ancient browser won't let me) so see my comments on Britt's post below...
